Race Summary

Carlos Penaranda and Andrew Iglesias broke the meet wide open for Pembroke Pine Charter. The duo went 1-2 in the race (15:56, 16:04) and helped secure the team victory in the boys varsity race. Pembroke defeated favorite St. Thomas Aquinas soundly 45-59, winning at every single position. Carlos' twin brother Daniel Penaranda made it a very strong top three at 16:30 (6th place), and Justin Ortiz and Daniel Arrango (18th 17:23 and 20th 17:34, respectively). On top of the 16:42 team average, they showed great depth with 7-man crossing in 17:48.

Joel Lacy had a nice race for Calvary Christian in 16:05. Drew Denson of Astonaut (16:14) and Alec Domniguez of St. Thomas Aquinas (16:25) rounded out the top five.

For the ladies it was South Florida Heat with an impressive three-pack up front going 2-3-4 with Jenna Evans (20:20), Carolyn Shields (20:30), and eighth-grader Abigail Serda (20:36). That helped put them out of reach early. despite a strong showing from the Tristian Milliken led Key West (5th, 20:39), South Florida Heat won out 56-85.

Junior Sara Bowden of Archbishop McCarthy was the individual gold medalist with a time of 20:13, just a bit off her personal best time of 20:04 from last week at flrunners where she finished fourth in the Large School division.
